A
Beautiful Antique Colonial
Built in 1771, this
house offers all of the antique charm of a historical home, yet is updated
with all the modern conveniences - an architect designed kitchen, a heated
in-ground swimming pool, second floor laundry, and a patio with radiant
heat. Located in the small town of Gorham Maine, just 10 minutes from
Portland and 15 minutes from the Portland International Jetport.
Wide pine floors, and
period molding set the tone, while historical murals, almost 100 years old,
surround the dining room. There are five fireplaces including a beautiful
hearth in the kitchen. Jotul hearth products are featured throughout
this warm and inviting three bedroom home, a wood stove in the living room,
a gas stove in the dining room and a remote controlled gas fireplace in the
master bedroom.
The farm has a rich
history which includes serving as a team run Stage Tavern from 1800 to 1810.
The original sign for the tavern hangs in the Gorham village museum.
In the early 1900's, Mary Baker Young harbored race horses in the barn for
the nearby racetrack, and sheep in the pasture for spinning wool that was
made into rugs and sweaters. Ms. Young gave the farm name of Sunshine
Acres. Today, the farm is home to award winning Suri alpacas, llamas,
chickens and Angora rabbits. The tradition of producing fine yarns,
roving and felts lives on in the full service fiber mill that has clients
from all over the nation.
